Car parts dealer's 'foolhardy' overtaking manoeuvre on A90
Lee Thomson admitted driving carelessly by overtaking three abreast on dual carriageway.
A car parts dealer tried to wedge his Mitsubishi Shogun between an overtaking car and the central reservation on the A90.
Lee Thomson, 44, admitted driving carelessly by overtaking three abreast on the dual carriageway between Perth and Dundee.
The "impatient" bodybuilder tried to squeeze past two vehicles even though one was already overtaking at 70 mph in the fast lane.
Perth Sheriff Court was told the driver of the middle vehicle contacted the police after Thomson ignored his gestured warnings to drop back and desist from overtaking.
Fiscal depute Carol Whyte told the court: "A vehicle was travelling at 70mph in the outer lane overtaking a slower moving vehicle.
"That driver became aware of another vehicle behind him. He said it was so close he couldn't see the bonnet.
"He moved left and the accused overtook him to the right on the tarmac area towards the central reservation. Effectively there were three vehicles abreast on the dual carriageway.
"The driver gesticulated to the accused to pull over but he didn't."
Thomson, of Inchcoonans Farmhouse, Errol, who earns £80,000 a year distributing Porsche parts, was fined £900 after admitting driving carelessly on the A90 on April 26 last year. He also had five points added to his licence.
Defence solicitor Ian Houston said: "His carelessness was to allow himself to get too close to the vehicle in front. There was a degree of impatience on the accused's part.
"He is a distributor of Porsche motor parts, a property developer on a small scale and also a bodybuilder, which he does competitively."
Sheriff William Wood said: "This driving had the potential to have had a catastrophic outcome, which I am sure you now appreciate. Plainly this was a very foolhardy act."
