A 36-year-old man has been shot dead during a police operation in Kent.

Armed officers were called to an address at Smiths Lane in Goudhurst on Sunday night. The man was fatally injured at the scene.

Kent Police said the pre-planned operation was linked to the murder of a 73-year old man in Biddenden on March 21.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission said it is investigating Sunday's incident, adding tests are being carried out on "what appears to be a non-police firearm found at the scene".
