New one-way system to come into force in city centre
Motorists will no longer be able to travel up Station Road in Stirling.
A new one-way system around Stirling city centre is to come into force this weekend.
The changes are part of the Stirling Station Gateway project to create a better welcome for people arriving in the city, improving access for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
Coming into effect on Sunday, the alterations will mean drivers will no longer be able to travel up Station Road, away from Stirling railway station and Goosecroft Road.
Instead, vehicles coming from the railway station or the bus station end of Goosecroft Road will travel further along the road before turning left on to Viewfield Place, approaching Murray Place from Barnton Street.
Stirling Council director of housing and environment Robert Steenson, said: "We want people arriving in Stirling to get the best welcome possible and for all visitors and commuters to experience an easy to navigate, attractive and functional environment.
"Some of the work due to take place shortly will inevitably cause some disruption, but we will work hard to minimise that by maintaining access to properties at all times and putting proper measures in place to ensure work is carried out safely and efficiently.
"Ultimately the work should help create a higher quality environment for us all."
Other improvement works are being planned and work at the Goosecroft Road/Seaforth Place junction and Maxwell Place has already begun to upgrade the traffic lights, remove pedestrian barriers, widen pedestrian routes and resurfacing.
Following a settling-in period for the new one-way system there will be significant footway improvements on Station Road and Murray Place.
Longer term work will be undertaken to improve the forecourt area at Stirling railway station and improve links to the nearby bus station, Forthside and the city centre.
