A dance festival that was expected to bring 15,000 people to Angus will not go ahead after organisers withdrew their application.

The two-day event was to feature big-name DJs including Underworld, Rudimental DJ and Leftfield at Panmure Estate on June 10 and 11.

Organisers have now thrown in the towel just days after a damning report from police and others deemed the event could not be delivered safely.

The application was due to be considered by Angus Council on Friday but plans have been withdrawn at the last minute.

The event will not go ahead this year as the deadline to finalise plans has passed, although it could be revived next year.

Angus Council has now cancelled both the civic licensing committee and licensing board meetings, which were due to consider entertainment and alcohol licences for the event.

In a statement, it said: "Angus Council can confirm that the event organiser of the proposed Festival of House has withdrawn their applications to stage the event.

"As a result of their decision, the special meeting of the civic licensing committee and the Angus licensing board will not go ahead.

Organisers of the Festival of House have been approached for a comment.
