Thousands protest TTIP in Germany ahead of Obama visit
Demonstrators gathered in Hanover to protest against the proposed transatlantic trade agreement.
Thousands of protesters have marched in Hanover to express their opposition to the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) deal ahead of a visit by the US President.
Both President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are in favour of the US-European free trade agreement, saying it would fuel growth on both sides of the Atlantic.
Public support for the deal has waned in both countries, with critics warning it could undermine the rights of workers and consumers and weaken environmental protections.
Police say 35,000 people took part in the demonstration, whilst organisers say more than double that number had attended.
