Man arrested over 1994 schoolboy murder released on bail
Man in his thirties was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the disappearance of Rikki Neave.
A man arrested on suspicion of murdering a six-year-old boy over 20 years ago has been released on bail.
The man, who is in his thirties, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the 1994 disappearance of Rikki Neave. He has now been bailed until June 15.
Rikki was last seen leaving his home on the Welland estate in Peterborough to go to school on November 28.
His naked body was found in a nearby woodland the following day. A post-mortem examination found that he had been strangled.
Rikki's mother Ruth Neave, 45, was charged with the murder at the time, but a jury later found her not guilty.
She pleaded guilty to child neglect and cruelty and was sentenced to seven years in prison. In recent years, Ms Neave has called on Cambridgeshire Police to reinvestigate the case, maintaining that her son's killer remains at large.
''For the last 20 years, I have been going through living hell from the public opinion of me caused by all the lies," she said.
''I wasn't a perfect mother but I never hurt my children and I should never have admitted to those offences. All I want now is justice and for his killers to be caught."
Anyone with information about Rikki's death should contact police on 01480 425882, email operation.mansell@cambs.pnn.police.uk or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
