A baby has died on a Cathay Pacific flight from London to Hong Kong, the airline has confirmed.

The infant, reported by Chinese media to be a four-month-old girl, was found unconscious on-board the CX256 service from Heathrow on Sunday.

It is believed the baby was suffering from "gastrointestinal problems," Apple Daily reported.

The jet was diverted to Kazakhstan, where medics confirmed the child's death.

Cathay Pacific told ITV News the baby's parents took their baby's body to Hong Kong, where they were headed to visit relatives.

A coroner's inquest will follow.
