An elderly man's disappearance after an Angus road accident sparked a police search.

Officers were concerned for the welfare of John Miller, 75, after his car was found abandoned following an accident near Arbroath on Thursday night.

The Honda had been involved in a one-car accident near a farm but the vehicle was unattended when police arrived.

The 75-year-old man was traced safe and well this morning.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Police Scotland can confirm that John Miller, aged 75 from the Arbroath area has been traced safe and well in the last few minutes.

"His green Honda CRV motor car was found unattended following a single vehicle road accident near to Denhead of Arbirlot Farm, Arbroath, which occurred about 7pm last night.

"Police carried out a number of searches following concern for his welfare."
