A so-called 'selfie bench' has captured the attention of bemused tourists after it was positioned facing away from a popular seaside view, not towards it.

The bench in Porthcawl, Wales, is one of two that were put in place facing inland. And despite its awkward positioning visitors have been able to see the funny side of the gaffe and joked it did still offer a good view just one of "traffic passing by" not calming waves.

Council bosses were initially criticised for the benches earlier this month but now it seems everyone has got used to the unusual new tourist attraction.

Even the town's Mayor has seen the amusement factor of the strange new benches, admitting that renaming the seats as "self-styled selfie benches" was a genius marketing move.

Mayor David Newton-Williams told ITV News: "I think it deserves 10 out of 10 for that, it was an off the cuff remark I'm sure but suddenly it's become "I thought of that a long time ago"."
