Perth and Kinross Council has revealed £23m plans to demolish and rebuild two of the area's most rundown primary schools.

The buildings at Tulloch and Kinross Primary Schools are deemed to be the worst in the council's school estate.

The council has been looking into the proposals, which have now been submitted for planning permission.

Its plans include demolition of both schools with the erection of replacement schools and nurseries with associated car parking, playground areas, sports pitches and landscaping.

A spokeswoman for Perth and Kinross Council said: "The council is committed to improving pupils' learning experiences.

"We have plans for a major school replacement programme which is funded jointly by the council and the Scottish Government.

"The budget for the development of the new primary schools for Kinross and Tulloch is £22.7m. These new schools are being funded by the council's capital programme."

The large scale of the project means both applications will likely have to go before the council development management committee. If approved, the new schools could be open by December 2017.

Additional Scottish Government funding is intended to be used for a new secondary school proposal at Bertha Park.
