A British paralympian has claimed she was left stranded when British Airways "lost" her wheelchair.

Pippa Britton, who has competed in archery at the Beijing and London Olympics, said she was left "in tears" when she landed back at Heathrow Airport and realised her wheelchair had not arrived.

She shared details of what she called her "unacceptable" ordeal on Twitter.

BA and Heathrow Airport contacted Ms Britton after reading about her ordeal.

Ms Britton said her wheelchair was eventually found in Geneva and returned to Heathrow.

She went on to thank staff at BA for their help in "getting my chair back to me".

"People can be brilliant," she wrote.

After BA said they were "delighted" to hear the news, Ms Britton said: "Just a shame that you lost it in the 1st place."

"It's been a horrible experience & I hope no one else has to go through it."

BA promised to "do all we can" to avoid a similar incident happening again.

ITV News has contacted British Airways for further comment.
