Police are investigating a possible morphine overdose after a pensioner died in a care home.

The death of a 87-year-old resident of Caledonian Court in Larbert, near Falkirk, is being treated as "unexplained" by police.

It is understood morphine overdose is one of the lines of inquiry police are looking into after the woman died at the home on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Officers in Forth Valley are currently investigating the death of an 87-year-old woman, who died at a nursing home on Victoria Road, Larbert, on Saturday.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing."

The home specialises in nursing and respite care for older people living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia as well as providing end of life care.
