Emergency services were called to the Rocío del Mar development in Torrevieja, near Alicante.
A four-year-old boy from Britain has drowned while on holiday with his family in southern Spain, according to local media.
Emergency services were reportedly called to the Rocío del Mar development in Torrevieja, near Alicante, at around 6pm yesterday.
Paramedics tried to revive the child at the scene, but were unsuccessful.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman told ITV News they were aware of the death of a minor at the resort.
"Following the death of a British national in Spain, we are providing support to their family," she said.
"Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."
It is not yet known whether the family were renting the holiday property or if they owned it.
Investigations have now been launched into what happened, and a post mortem examination was expected to take place today.
