Husband 'decapitated wife and flushed head down toilet'
Dempsey Nibbs is accused of 'unspeakable' violence after becoming enraged by 'affairs'.
A husband was driven to cut off his wife's head and flush it down the loo because of her "affairs", a court heard.
Crane driver Dempsey Nibbs, 69, told the Old Bailey he felt "betrayed" by his wife Judith's relationships with other men.
Dibbs is on trial accused of murdering Mrs Nibbs at their flat in Hoxton, east London, in April 2014.
The prosecution allege the 60-year-old was probably unconscious when Nibbs decapitated her, before smashing her head into pieces and disposing of it in an "unspeakable" act of violence.
Nibbs told jurors he only intended to "slap her around a bit" as he confronted her about "proof" of infidelity.
She died in the struggle as he hit her on the head with a metal bar he was trying to force into her mouth.
Asked how he felt by prosecutor Crispin Aylett QC, Nibbs answered: "I feel terrible. Still, she let me down".
Later, he said: "She did betray me. When she died that was me finished. Me, myself I'm dead because I did not see a way out for me. I cut her head off because I'm finished, I'm dead".
Nibbs denies murder and obstructing the coroner from holding an inquest by disposing of Mrs Nibbs' head.
