A man has been charged with plotting an "imminent" terror attack in France and of owning an arsenal of explosives on an "unprecedented scale".

Reda Kriket, 34, is accused of participating in a terrorist group with plans for at least one imminent attack, holding false documentation, and possessing and moving arms and explosives, among other charges.

It is alleged that Kriket travelled to Syria in 2014 and 2015 and made several trips between France, Belgium, and Holland.

At least three other people involved in the case are in custody in Belgium and Holland.

Two Algerian men believed to be linked to the plot are being held in Brussels, and will face a hearing on April 7.

Another Frenchman linked to Kriket, Anis Bari, is being held in Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Paris prosecutor Francois Molins says that no target for the foiled attack has been identified, and Kriket has not revealed anything about his plans to investigators.

Mr Molins has not said whether there is any connection between this case and the Islamic State terrorist attacks in Brussels last week.
