Driver broke passengers' backs in crash after police chase
Kasiem Ahmed, 24, admitted dangerous driving on notorious A81 in 2014.
A young driver who tried to outrun police flipped his car and broke both his passengers' backs.
Kasiem Ahmed, 24, put his foot down when police tried to stop him on the notorious stretch of twisting A81 between Drumgoyne and Blanefield, north of Glasgow.
Stirling Sheriff Court heard he drove at excessive speed and misjudged a corner causing him to hit a grass verge and overturn his three-door Vauxhall Corsa.
The vehicle ended up on its roof in the middle of the road, having narrowly missed colliding with two passing cars and two passengers he was carrying were seriously hurt.
He was jailed for eight months after pleading guilty to dangerous driving on the night of November 30, 2014.
Imposing the jail term, sheriff Wyllie Robertson told Ahmed he was fortunate he had not ended up in the High Court, convicted of causing death by dangerous driving.
He said: "The police activated their sirens to try to stop you but you were driving so fast you were lost from their sight, until of course they came across the accident.
"In the course of this your friends sustained serious injuries -- they both sustained broken backs.
"In all these circumstances, despite your lack of record, I am satisfied that no sentence other than custody is appropriate."
