A man has been arrested after police found more than 1,400 bags of heroin inside his body.

Police in Vermont, USA, stopped Fernando Estrella in his vehicle early on Tuesday on suspicion of numerous driving offences.

During the stop, a K9 drug detection dog alerted officers to the possible presence of drugs.

When none were found, police detained the 41-year-old and obtained a warrant for a body cavity search.

A Vermont State Police statement said: "The search warrant was executed at the local hospital and approximately 1428 bags worth of heroin was located in Estrella."

Estrella was arrested and charged with felony heroin possession, heroin trafficking, heroin importation and violation of conditions of release.
