A British family fear a suicide bomber who appeared in Islamic State propaganda is their missing son.

The militant, fighting for IS under the name Abu Musa al-Britani, is believed to be Mohammed Rizwan Awan who left to visit Mecca in 2015 and had not contacted his family since, his family told the BBC.

The Awan family, from Huddersfield, "knew in their hearts" it was the 27-year-old, it was reported.

IS social media accounts shared the photograph saying he was the suicide bomber in an attack in the al-Anbar province, west of Baghdad, and claimed nearly 30 people died.

The actual death toll has been disputed, with the Iraqi state claiming the suicide bomber was the only casualty.
