Appeal for Wallace Monument artefacts as landmark turns 155
Stirling Council to stage three-day Victorian Masterpiece event to mark the anniversary.
An appeal has gone out for memorabilia featuring the Wallace Monument in a bid to create a collection to mark the iconic structure's 155th anniversary.
The National Wallace Monument organisation in Stirling has kicked off a campaign tomark 155 years since the historic laying of the foundation stone.
Guide books, newspaper articles and photographs will form part of a display for visitors during a special Victorian Masterpiece weekend on June 24 - 26.
The weekend will include acting performances and amusements, as well as displays outlining the people behind the monument such as its designer JT Rochead and the man who inspired it, William Wallace.
Ken Thomson, marketing manager at Stirling District Tourism, said: "It was during the Victorian period that William Wallace came to be recognised as Scotland's national hero.
"This fuelled the movement which led to the building of memorials across Scotland, from the Borders to Aberdeen, including The National Wallace Monument.
"We are sure that many households will have their own memorabilia and we would invite anyone with any interesting items to contact us."
