A nun has been caught shoplifting on CCTV.

Agnes Pennino, 78, was seen taking her own shopping bags out to put the stolen items into and then walking out the store.

Workers at the Surplus Outlet in Pennsylvania in the US said she made off with $23 (£15) worth of food and toiletries.

The owner said: "I was shocked. I would never believe that a nun could actually do such a thing."

Although Pennino made it out the store without being stopped, police caught up with her later after tracing her vehicle to a nearby convent.

She has since been charged with a summary offence.

If she pleads guilty, she will only have to pay a fine.
