Fresh inquest due to open into death of toddler at her home
Poppi Worthington was just 13 months old when she died after being found with serious injuries.
A fresh inquest into the death of toddler Poppi Worthington is due to open later today.
The 13-month old died in December 2012 after being found with serious injuries at her home in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.
The opening of a new inquest for Poppi comes after a judge ruled in January that the 13-month-old had been sexually assaulted by her father Paul before her sudden death.
Paul Worthington was initially arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, an allegation he denies, but has never been charged.
An initial inquest which lasted just seven minutes, failed to reveal any of the circumstances of the night in question before declaring Poppi's death "unexplained" - while a 2014 fact-finding civil court judgement was kept private, so as not to influence any future legal proceedings.
It was only after a second fact-finding hearing was held last year that High Court family judge Mr Justice Peter Jackson ruled "on the balance of probabilities" Mr Worthington had assaulted his daughter.
The Crown Prosecution Service has now said it is reviewing its original decision not to bring charges and will consider any new evidence that emerges at the new inquest.
