Man proposes to girlfriend after she hears for the first time
The man proposed after his deaf partner received a cochlear implant.
A deaf woman was proposed to by her boyfriend shortly after being able to hear properly for the first time.
Andrea Diaz had just received a cochlear implant - a surgically implanted electronic device that can help people to hear who get little or no benefits from hearing aids.
In a video posted online, Andrea becomes emotional at being able to hear and react to voices - including her mother's and boyfriend's - once the device was activated by her audiologist Dr Vicki Gonzalez at the Mississippi Medical Center.
Andrea's boyfriend, Kevin, Peakman, asked her if she could hear him - and shortly after she said that she could, he got down on one knee.
In the romantic proposal, he explained that he wanted one of the first things she heard was the proposal.
His girlfriend immediately responds with a "yes".
Cochlear implants are fitted under the skin behind the ear during surgery.
According to the NHS, there are currently around 11,000 people in the UK with cochlear implants and the number is increasing each year.
