Two men have been arrested after a cycle patrol police officer was 'deliberately' hit by a car, the Metropolitan Police said.

The 39-year-old officer needed hospital treatment for arm and leg injuries after being struck as he attempted to stop a black Vauxhall Meriva in Peckham on Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives said he was "extremely fortunate" to have escaped without serious harm.

Witnesses to the incident, which occurred on Kennington Park Road at around 2.45pm, have been urged to come forward.
