A pet shop chain has suspended the sale of rabbits for the Easter period as it launched a campaign aimed at stopping impulse purchases of the cute animals over the holidays.

Pets Corner launched the "Bunnies aren't for Easter" campaign as part of efforts to urge would-be rabbit owners to hold off until April.

The chain claims that many customers buy rabbits over Easter on impulse because of their links to the traditional holiday - but don't always consider important things like food, exercise, shelter and getting their floppy-eared pet neutered.

Pets Corner's head of training, Lucy Ross, said:

The annual cost of keeping a rabbit can cost in excess of £500 a year, some experts warn.
