A major search and rescue operation was launched at the Clackmannanshire Bridge following reports of a body in the Firth of Forth.

The crossing was closed for several hours on Sunday evening while emergency services, including a Coastguard helicopter, conducted a search.

It is understood a member of the public reported seeing a body in the water but nothing has been recovered.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police and other emergency services responded to the Clackmannanshire Bridge at around 6.10pm on Sunday following reports that a person may be within the water.

"A multi-agency search is ongoing and the Coastguard helicopter is being utilised during this activity. Inquiries are ongoing."
