Twin two-year-old boys who died after drowning in a fish pond at their home have been named locally.

Rhys and Shaun Scott died after falling into the pond at their home in Dalgety Bay, Fife, on Saturday. Their parents have been named locally as Mervyn Scott and Sarah Aitken.

Emergency services were called around 8.20am and the boys were taken to Victoria Hospital, where they died.

Officers are supporting the family as police try to determine what happened.

Local MSP Alex Rowley said the incident was "heartbreaking".

He said: "This is awful news and is every parent's worst nightmare.

"The loss of two young lives from the same family is just heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers, and those of the whole community, are with the family."

A Police Scotland spokesman said on Saturday: "We received a call around 8.20am on Saturday following a report of concern for two children at an address in Dalgety Bay, Fife.

"Two male twins, aged two had reportedly drowned in a fish pond and officers attended with the Scottish Ambulance Service.

"The children were taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy where they sadly died.

"Officers are supporting the family at this time and inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.”
