Pupil caught with blade on day Bailey Gwynne trial ended
Teachers found the knife in a 13-year-old boy's school bag and called in police.
A teenager was caught with a knife in a Stirlingshire high school on the same day a 16-year-old boy was found guilty of stabbing Aberdeen schoolboy Bailey Gwynne to death.
The 13-year-old boy took the blade into school on Monday, police confirmed.
He showed it to classmates, who became concerned and told teachers. Staff searched the pupil's bag and the knife was confiscated.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman: "Police in Forth Valley were made aware that a knife had been brought into a school on March 7.
"A 13-year-old pupil was spoken to by one of Falkirk's dedicated school-based [police] officers, and a police report has been submitted."
A spokesman for the education authority, Falkirk Council, said the matter was also being investigated by the school.
The spokesman said: "We are aware of an alleged incident at the school earlier this week and education staff are working in partnership with police to assist with this matter.
"The education authority and Police Scotland treat all suggestions that weapons of any sort are being brought into school premises very seriously and will not tolerate this in anyway.
"Be assured that all appropriate action will be taken to prevent and detect these incidents."
Bailey Gwynne died after being stabbed in the heart during a row over a packet of biscuits at Cults Academy.
His killer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was tried for murder but a jury convicted him of culpable homicide at Aberdeen High Court on Monday.
