Man coerced woman into sex then sent revenge porn to family
Clive Weatherhogg blackmailed his victim into having sex with a stranger he found online.
A man who coerced a woman into having hotel sex sessions with a stranger then sent a film of the encounters to her family on Christmas Day has been warned he faces years in prison.
Clive Weatherhogg, 42, set up a series of meetings between the woman and Edward Amobi, who he found through an adult website, over the course of a year.
He made the pair film their sessions when they refused to let him remain in the room.
Weatherhogg later uploaded one of the videos to blogging website Tumblr and sent it to the victim's sister as she, the victim, and their entire family sat down to their Christmas dinner on December 25, 2014.
He was found guilty by a jury of charges of coercing the woman into having sex with Mr Amobi and sending the "revenge porn" video.
On Wednesday, a sheriff remanded him in custody and said: "This case will almost inevitably have to be remitted to the High Court."
The maximum sentence at sheriff court level is five years. The court earlier heard the maximum sentence for Weatherhogg's crime is life imprisonment.
During a five-day trial Mr Amobi made a string of allegations, including that Weatherhogg wanted the pair to video call him during one of their meetings and that Weatherhogg wanted to take part in a threesome, which was rejected.
The victim told the court that Weatherhogg instructed what was to happen during their encounters and treated them "like mechanical dolls".
In her evidence, the woman said she felt "blackmailed" by Weatherhogg, who booked hotels for the pair.
She told the jury: "He wanted to FaceTime [video call] me while we were having sex but I wouldn't agree to it.
"Then he said he wanted to phone and listen and if I wouldn't agree to that then he wanted me to video it."
The father of the victim, aged 69, who cannot be named to protect his daughter's identity, told the court the mood at the Christmas dinner was already "subdued" when the revenge porn film was sent, as it was the family's first Christmas since the loss of his wife.
He said: "We were just about to sit down for our meal when one of my daughters got a text with the video.
"She was very upset, but they managed to keep what it was about from the children. Some people didn't eat any Christmas dinner after that."
Weatherhogg, giving evidence in his own defence, refuted any suggestion he had been the "driving force" behind the rendezvous but the jury rejected this claim.
Weatherhogg, of Balmalcolm, by Cupar, denied on indictment three charges under the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act.
The jury of nine men and six women took an hour and a half to find him guilty of the coercion charge by majority, and the revenge porn charges unanimously.
At the close of the evidence Weatherhogg admitted a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.
Sheriff George Way deferred sentence until next month for social work background reports and remanded Weatherhogg in custody in the meantime.
He said: "I can't have him at liberty when its perfectly clear that a very significant sentence will be imposed.
"It is almost inevitable that this will be remitted to the High Court."
