Fourteen people have been injured after a commuter train derailed in the US and one of its carriages fell into a creek.

Images and video posted on Twitter by Alameda County Fire showed a carriage on its side about half-submerged in the creek water.

The train was believed to be carrying 214 passengers when it derailed in Sunrol.

Authorities said one of the carriages carrying nine people went into the creek.

Police said four people sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries in the incident. Ten others suffered minor injuries.

All passengers have been removed from the train and are being assessed, officials said.
