Corrie’s Les Dennis and Oliver Farnworth on taking a break from the soap
Watch this interview with Corrie’s Les Dennis and Oliver Farnworth (Michael and Andy) as they chat about taking a break from the soap to tread the boards in Down The Dock Road.
They’re used to causing a storm down Weatherfield-way, but Corrie’s Les Dennis and Oliver Farnworth, aka Michael Rodwell and his ‘fake son’ Andy Carver, are getting ready to say ‘ta-ra’ to the soap for a short time.
The pair are getting set to tread the boards in Alan Bleasdale's classic play Down The Dock Road, as they take a mini-break from Coronation Street and they were on This Morning today to tell us more.
“I saw this 40 years ago in Liverpool Playhouse,Down the Dock Road, written by the brilliant Alan Bleasdale,” Les explained.
“He came in the other day and showed us the script. He finished writing it on the 26/02/76, and he came in on the 26/02/16 and showed us it.”
The play is about a group of dockers, and is a day in the life of ten of the workers, with Oliver playing a ‘man-about-town type character.
He likes to seem himself as the Lothario of the group, he likes to regale the other dockers with his tale of his evening exploits,” Oliver explained.
Les meanwhile has a slightly different role.
“I’m granddad. When I first saw [the play] I could have played Our Kid, who is the youngest character, played by Nathan McMullen, but now i am playing granddad, the oldest," the actor joked.
“It’s his last day on the docks, so he’s got this fed up feeling about retiring, and looking after all the other dockers."
Check out the full interview above to see Les and Oliver talk about their play and hear what they’ve got to say about returning to Corrie.
Coronation Street is on STV on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on STV.
