Customers who have bought Oatibix Flakes are being warned to check their box of cereal over concerns some batches could contain pieces of rubber.

Weetabix Food Company is calling on customers who have bought 500g size packs of the cereal with best before dates between January 18, 2017 and January 21, 2017 to dispose of the product and apply for a refund from them.

The company is recalling the product over concerns it could contain small pieces of blue soft rubber.

No other Oatibix batches or products are affected, the company said.

In a statement on its website, it said: "Weetabix Food Company is recalling cereal packs because the product may contain pieces of blue soft rubber.

"Oatibix Flakes batches subject to the recall notice are all 550g size packs, with:

"Fulfilling the expectations of our consumers is of paramount importance to us here at Weetabix, and we take all issues regarding the quality of our food extremely seriously," the company added.

Customers with affected packs are asked to take a photograph of the Best Before date and send it to consumerservice@weetabix.com.

They can also send the strip from the top of the pack to: Freepost RTJX-CZGH-ZLYK Oatibix Consumer Services PO Box 5, Burton Latimer, Kettering, Northamptonshire NN15 5JR.

They will then receive a full refund.
