An elderly driver who died in a three-vehicle crash in Angus has been named by police.

The crash happened around noon on Friday on the A92 between Arbroath and Montrose near the Maryton junction.

Police confirmed on Monday that George McAllister, 79, from Broughty Ferry, Dundee, died of his injuries.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland can confirm that a man who sadly died following a fatal road traffic collision on the A92 Arbroath to Montrose road on 19 has been formally identified.

"He has been named as 79-year-old George McAllister from Broughty Ferry. As with all sudden deaths a report will submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

A woman driver who was seriously injured in the crash remains in hospital.
