Andy Murray celebrates birth of daughter with wife Kim Sears
The couple, who have been together for nine years, tied the knot at Dunblane Cathedral last year.
Tennis star Andy Murray is celebrating the birth of his first child with wife Kim Sears.
The birth of their daughter on Sunday night comes after the couple tied the knot in Murray's hometown of Dunblane in April.
The couple, who have been together for more than nine years, announced the pregnancy four months later.
Andy's mother Judy Murray, wrote on Facebook: "Another wee bairn to add to my collection of tennis super stars! Congrats to Kim and Andy!"
The news was welcomed by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on Tuesday morning, who tweeted: "Lovely news. Congratulations to Andy Murray and Kim on the birth of their daughter. Wishing every happiness."
Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale also tweeted her support, saying: "Huge congratulations to Kim Sears and Andy Murray on their wonderful news."
The gold post box, installed in Dunblane in honour of the tennis star's achievements, was decorated with bunting to celebrate the new arrival.
Murray competed in the Australian Open in January but lost out to Novak Djokovic, who secured his sixth Australian Open title.
He said at the time that if his 28-year-old wife went into early labour he would fly straight home, adding: "I'd be way more disappointed winning the Australian Open and not being at the birth of the child."
Andy's grandmother Shirley Erskine told the BBC she was thrilled at the arrival of the new addition to the family.
She said the family had not known what sex the baby was going to be.
Mrs Erskine, who is Judy Murray's mother, told BBC Scotland: "Andy and Kim said from the outset that they didn't want to know, so I'm assuming that they didn't know and of course none of us knew, so it was nice to get a little surprise like that."
The great-grandmother added that she received a text message from Andy telling her about the birth.
"Andy had sent a text round all the family, one of these multi-media type texts, and then I got a text from him saying something about, 'She's doing well'."
