A climber has been airlifted to hospital after he triggered an avalanche and was swept hundreds of metres over crags on a Highlands mountain.

Rescue teams were called out to Creag Meagaidh on Saturday around 2.30pm, after a member of a two-man climbing team became injured in snowy conditions.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue team said the two climbers triggered an avalanche and one was swept 300m over crags.

The coastguard's Rescue 951 helicopter picked up the man who had been caught in the avalanche and flew him to Belford Hospital in Fort William. His injuries are not thought to be serious.

The mountain rescue team were able to meet the other climber and walk with him off the route.
