A 15-year-old girl has gone missing from her family home in East Lothian.

Nikita Ryan, from Tranent, has been not been seen since Saturday at around 10pm.

It is believed she took a bus from Tranent to Edinburgh around that time.

The teenager knows Edinburgh well, particularly the south east of the city where she has a number of friends.

Police are urging anyone who has seen Nikita or has information on her whereabouts to come forward immediately.

She is described as 5ft 2in tall, slim build with long auburn coloured hair that is normally worn down.

At the time of her disappearance she was wearing a black leather jacket with a fur collar, denim jeans and tan coloured Ugg boots.

Inspector Neil Mitchell said: "We're carrying out various lines of inquiry in an effort to trace Nikita safe and well. Today, I ask anyone who has seen Nikita to please contact police immediately. I also appeal to Nikita directly to make contact to let us know that you are safe and well."
