Firefighters battled through the night on Wednesday to tackle a house fire in Stirlingshire.

The blaze destroyed the property on Stirling Road, Denny, but the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed the residents escaped without injury.

An SFRS spokesman described the incident as an "intense fire", which took hold in the roof.

Emergency services were called to the scene after a 999 call was made at around 10.35pm on Wednesday.

The fire service spokesman said: "An intense fire at a house in Denny was brought under control after firefighters entered the burning building to tackle the flames.

"SFRS crews were scrambled after a 999 caller reported smoke filling the house in the town’s Stirling Street.

"Firefighters were immediately sent into the home to search for anyone still inside. They confirmed everyone had gotten to safety and knocked down the fire using two high-pressure jets."

Group manager David Farries, the incident commander, said: "This was a well-developed fire within the roof space and we committed four firefighters in breathing apparatus who successfully brought it under control.

"Our crews stripped away exterior roof tiles and used a thermal imaging camera to check for any hidden hot spots, which confirmed the fire was fully extinguished."

The fire was extinguished on Thursday morning. An investigation is now under way to establish its cause.
