A pair of alleged fraudsters are accused of putting two televisions through a supermarket's self-scan till with the wrong barcodes then making off with them after paying just 40p.

Kyle Christie, 23, and Mathew Ferguson, 21, are said to have taken the TVs, worth a total of £467, from a Tesco Extra store on South Road, Dundee, on September 25 last year. They are accused of obtaining the electrical goods by fraud.

John Boyle, representing Christie, told Dundee Sheriff Court: "We have obtained CCTV footage but are still awaiting witness statements from the Crown."

Christie, 23, of Adamson Court, and Ferguson, of North Lindsay Street, both Dundee, deny charges of fraud.

A third accused, Liam Gorrie, 22, of Red Admiral Court, Dundee, previously had a warrant issued for his arrest after failing to appear at an earlier hearing relating to the case.

He faces the same charge as Christie and Ferguson, as well as a separate charge of attempting to obtain a £329 TV by the same method, this time paying 20p.

Sheriff Alistair Carmichael set a trial date in May.
