The American Airlines plane was travelling from Miami to Milan when it encountered the turbulence.
The aircraft landed in Newfoundland on Sunday and was met by paramedics, with three flight attendants and four passengers taken to hospital. None of their injuries were thought to be life-threatening.
The Boeing 767 was carrying 192 passengers and 11 crew at the time.
Arrangements were being made to transport the uninjured passengers to Milan, American Airlines said.
