Armed police officers have been called to an "ongoing disturbance" in an Aberdeenshire town.

Police Scotland said officers are involved in negotiations to bring the situation at an address in Meethill Place, Peterhead, to a "swift and safe conclusion".

A spokesman said: "The road has been closed as a result and firearms officers are assisting local policing units in managing this incident.

"The situation is contained and there is no threat to the wider public."
