Andy Murray's father-in-law Nigel Sears collapses at Australian Open
It is understood Mr Sears has seen a cardiologist after collapsing while watching a match.
Andy Murray's father-in-law Nigel Sears is undergoing tests in hospital after he collapsed at the Australian Open.
Mr Sears, the coach of Ana Ivanovic, was in Rod Laver Arena for the her third-round match against American Madison Keys on Saturday when he collapsed and had to be carried away on a stretcher.
The match was suspended for 50 minutes while 58-year-old Mr Sears was taken to hospital, where it is understood he was seeing a cardiologist.
Jamie Murray told Press Association Sport that Sears was "undergoing tests" but was "conscious, talking and sitting up".
Andy Murray was not immediately made aware of the incident as he beat Portugal's Joao Sousa on the nearby Margaret Court Arena to reach the tournament's fourth round.
After completing his victory, Murray was told what had happened by his mother Judy and immediately left the stadium to visit Sears in hospital.
His customary on-court interview was cancelled and it was also announced he would not be giving a post-match press conference.
Mr Sears' daughter and Murray's wife Kim has remained in the UK during the Australian Open as she is expecting her first child, which is due in February.
Andy Murray has said he would leave the Australian Open early if Kim went into labour but there is no suggestion at this stage he will pull out of the tournament as a result of Mr Sears' condition.
The tennis coach received swift medical assistance and the he was soon carried away on a stretcher with his shirt off but was conscious.
Ivanovic and Keys waited on court for around 10 minutes before they were informed play was suspended and both left the arena.
After a 50-minute delay, the players re-emerged and the match was resumed with Keys trailing 6-4 1-0. Keys went on to win the match 4-6 6-4 6-4.
A statement from the Australian Open said: "A male in his 50s fell ill in Rod Laver Arena this evening. He was transported to hospital by ambulance.
"The match was suspended and the players updated on his condition. The players had the opportunity to consult with their teams and then went back on court. The players returned to the court at 8.40 pm."
Ana Ivanovic also left the area without giving interviews following her match.
