Woman who killed convicted paedophile has prison sentence doubled
Sarah Sands knifed neighbour, Michael Pleasted, within weeks of hearing he had molested three boys.
A mother-of-five who was jailed for three-and-a-half years for fatally stabbing a convicted paedophile has had her sentence more than doubled.
Court of Appeal judges in London upped the "unduly lenient" prison term originally imposed in the case of Sarah Sands, 33, of east London, to seven-and-a-half years.
Sands knifed her 77-year-old neighbour, Michael Pleasted, within weeks of hearing he had molested three young boys.
Her sentenced for manslaughter was reduced from seven-and-a-half years at her original sentencing as the judge had taken into consideration her status as a single mother.
In November 2014 Sands went to Pleasted's flat in Canning Town, east London, to confront him about the allegations. CCTV footage showed Sands entering and leaving the building with the knife in her hands.
Within hours of the attack which left Pleasted dead, Sands handed herself into police, telling an officer: "Who houses a f paedophile on an estate, like, seriously? He was, like, asking for trouble."
