Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash in Dundee after a car became wedged under a footbridge stairwell.

The BMW crashed on Strathmartine Road at the Kingsway junction shortly before 6am on Thursday.

It came off the road and ended up on top of a safety barrier with all four wheels off the ground.

Police confirmed no one was injured in the crash.

Firefighters and police were called to the scene and worked to make the area safe.

A spokesman for the fire service confirmed no one was in the car by the time firefighters arrived.

One lane of the dual-carriageway was closed for several hours and tailbacks built up on the Kingsway as a result.

The footbridge was closed to the public as a precaution.
