Twitter users are still reportedly experiencing issues with the service "dropping off line", more than seven hours after technical problems with the site were first recorded.

The social media platform first received blackout reports at around 8.30am on Tuesday with some users later confirming Twitter timelines had sporadically reappeared on their mobile apps just before 11am.

However other users of the site were still citing issues with the site regularly dropping back offline, with images and videos failing to load at all and direct messaging not working, as late as Tuesday afternoon.

It is the first time Twitter has experienced sustained technical issues of this sort in its 10 year history.

A message posted on the site confirmed the company were aware of the issue, stating "something is technically wrong" and a Twitter post made by the company's support team when the issue was first reported said the company was "aware of the issue and working towards a resolution".

Twitter has not yet officially confirmed if it has resolved the issue, or commented on what is causing the continued problems.
