Two men were "killed instantly" after plunging from a mountain in a climbing accident.

Police were alerted by two climbers who found their bodies in Glencoe on Saturday afternoon.

Mountain rescuers say the men were found at Stob Coire nam Beith at 4.25pm and are believed to have been roped together when they fell.

It is believed the men had fallen "some distance".

Officers directed Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team to the scene of the accident and the bodies of the two men were found at about 6.55pm.

Team leader Andy Nelson said: "The guys were roped together, so it is possible they were still on the climb but they have clearly fallen some distance.

"My information is that they have been killed instantly by the fall. They had all the relevant equipment and there is nothing to suggest that they were ill-equipped or inexperienced."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Sadly, the two climbers were found to be deceased. Further details will be released when available."
