The search for a missing kayaker who was warned not to go out in stormy weather has been called off.

An off-duty police officer urged the man not to set off from Traigh Beach on Arisaig on Scotland's west coast on Wednesday.

A search launched that evening involving three coastguard teams, the RNLI and a rescue helicopter was called off on Thursday afternoon.

The missing man has not been identified but he is understood to be in his 30s.

Angus MacIver, duty controller for the UK Coastguard said: "Following a comprehensive search effort in the area with nothing found, a decision has been taken to terminate the search pending any further information."
