Since signing to Island Records last August, indie rockers Model Aeroplanes have continued to soar through the ranks of the UK music scene.

The Dundee band triumphed at the 2015 Scottish Music Awards winning the best emerging artist prize, played T in the Park and supported Twin Atlantic.

As they gear up for their first headline UK tour, guitarist Grant Irvine took time out from rehearsing for some quick-fire questions.

How old were you when the band got signed?

It was last year, I was 19. All of our families were over the moon and totally chuffed. It was a sense of relief for them to see us go for it from such a young age.

Which city are you most excited to play on your upcoming tour?

Dundee. It's the home town show so it always adds that bit of pressure.

Will you be playing any new songs on tour?

We will be playing some new songs that will be hopefully be coming out on an EP before the tour. We are excited to see how people react to it.

What are you currently watching on Netflix?

I just finished Making a Murderer. It is unbelievable. It makes you ask a load of questions about the world and makes you realise that you can't trust the people you really should be able to trust, but I don't want to give too much away if you haven't watched it.

If you weren't doing music what would you be doing?

I wanted to go to university to study physics. I'm not saying that I would have been able to, though. I also worked at McDonald's after school in my spare time. So if I wasn't in a band, I would probably still be at McDonald's or at university doing physics.

Who is your favourite up-and-coming Scottish band?

I would have to say our pals from Edinburgh, Indigo Velvet, they seem really promising.

What is your dream venue to play?

The Royal Albert Hall.

Halloween or Christmas?

I would say Christmas just because I am too old to go trick or treating.

You aren't too old for Santa though?

You know what, I'm probably too old for Santa loving as well. The thing is I haven't got any good Halloween costumes, I always try to squeeze into my skeleton costume from when I was about ten and as much as I try, I just look awful in it so, yeah, Christmas.

Taylor Swift or Ellie Goulding?

Taylor Swift, every time, Ellie Goulding doesn't stand a chance. That's a bit harsh but I will have to politely decline Ellie today.

Who is your dream band to tour with?

Foster The People, Vampire Weekend, Foals... or Little Mix

Three countries you would like to visit?

This is tough, I feel like you've got me on Celebrity Mastermind except it's 'unknown person' mastermind.

I would say Brazil, USA and China seem really interesting - I would get a break from Facebook.

Who is the best music act to come out of Scotland?

In my opinion, Danny Wilson.

Career highlights so far?

There are obvious ones like playing T in the Park and playing Koko. Getting signed and winning a Scottish Music Award last year are up there as well.

What was the last thing you ate?

I made an omelette with mushrooms in it because I couldn't find any other veg.

What is your favourite Twitter account?

Limmy is pretty funny and Sanjeev Kohli.
