An Ohio man who is on the run from the police responded to a police request for information in a slightly unusual fashion.

Instead of going to ground and trying to keep a low profile, the 45-year-old instead sent in a photo he thought was more flattering than the mug shots posted by Lima Police Department.

There is an active warrant for the arrest of Donald "Chip" Pugh for failure to appear in court, and the police also said he was a person of interest in several other cases including arson and vandalism.

Lima Police posted the mugshots on its Facebook page asking the public to come forward with information on his whereabouts. It also posted the selfie that he sent in, along with the message: Here is a better photo that one is terrible.

Lima Police Department said: "This photo was sent to us by Mr Pugh himself. We thank him for being helpful, but now we would appreciate it if he would come speak to us at the LPD about his charges."

The department added on its Facebook page: "There is an active warrant for the arrest of Donald A "Chip" Pugh, age 45 of Lima, for Failure to Appear. Mr. Pugh is also currently a person of interest in several other cases including an arson and vandalism. If you know the whereabouts of Donald Pugh, please contact the Lima Police Department, the Allen County S.O. or the Shawnee Township Police Department. You can also contact Allen County Crimestoppers."
