Hunt for 'suspicious' man who tried to befriend eight-year-old
Police say the man tried to engage the schoolgirl in conversation in Carnoustie on Monday afternoon.
Police are hunting a man who approached and tried to befriend an eight-year-old girl in Angus on Monday.
They have described the man as a "suspicious person" and said although the incident in Carnoustie may have been innocuous, they are treating it as serious.
The incident happened as the schoolgirl walked along Ravensby Road between 1.15pm and 1.30pm.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police Scotland is appealing for information after an eight-year-old girl was approached by a man, who tried to engage her in conversation as she walked along Ravensby Road.
"He is described as a white male, aged in his early 30s, tall, of medium build, with short dark spiky hair.
"He was wearing blue denim jeans, a large black jacket with a hood (which was down) and black footwear.
"It should be noted that whilst the matter may be innocuous, officers are treating this seriously and are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen someone in the vicinity who matches the man's description.
"Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101."
